The Department of Anthropology and Middle Eastern Cultures (AMEC) at Mississippi State University supports movements for racial justice. As anthropologists, we are committed to studying, teaching, and respecting human diversity, and we condemn the systemic and individual forms of racism and racial violence that affect the lives of Black Americans daily.
We will take this moment to ask difficult questions about our own research and our discipline's complicity in furthering racial injustice both at home and abroad. We are committed to listening, learning, and working to transform our research and pedagogy to create positive change in our discipline, our university, and in the communities where we live and work.
To this end, we support statements on antiracism, racial justice, and police violence provided by the American Anthropological Association (AAA), the Association of Black Anthropologists (ABA), and the Middle East Studies Association (MESA), linked below.
